6. 數的不一致（名詞的單複數問題）
有些詞或者短語後面一般要加可數名詞的複數。如"a few, few, a variety of, various, other, numerous, a number of, different, one of, many, several, these".

Smoking cessation is one of the likely factor that contribute to the development of obesity.
Smoking cessation is one of the likely factors that contribute to the development of obesity.
one of後面要加名詞的複數。

6.2 有一些詞後面一般要加可數名詞的單數。
如"any other, another, each, either, neither"

Many teenagers begin smoking habits due to peer pressure but not for any other reasons.
Many teenagers begin smoking habits due to peer pressure but not for any other reason.
any other後面不可以加名詞的復數。

6.3 有一些詞或者位語後面一般要加不可數名詞，
如"a little, little, less, much, enormous, a large amount of"

Little progresses have been made toward tackling poverty.
Little progress have been made toward tackling poverty.
little後面不能加可數名詞的複數。
progress是不可數名詞。

6.4 不可數名詞沒有複數，
如"information, knowledge, evidence, behaviour, news, research, waste, pollution"

There are evidences that rules can lead to children's anti-social behaviour.
There is evidence that rules can lead to children's anti-social behaviour.
evidence是不可數名詞。
註：2.5 "there be"句型中謂語動詞的數隨其後面的名詞改變。所以evidences是用There are，evidence是用There is。

6.5 有些可數名詞的複數形式不規則變化，而不是僅僅加s或者es。
child => children
datun => data
phenomenon => phenomena
means => means
medium => media
species => species

The datas are a valuable asset to the company.
The data are a valuable asset to the company.
Data本身已經是複數。
註：asset是可數名詞，所以要加不定冠詞。

6.6 代詞的數不一致
代詞"he, she, it, one, anybody, everybody, somebody, nobody"都是單數。
"they"是複數。

Anybody who does not save money for their retirement will have to accept a lower standard of living in later years.
Anybody who does not save money for his/her retirement will have to accept a lower standard of living in later years.
Anybody是單數，而thier是眾數，應用his/her單數。
註：money是不可數名詞，所以不用加不定冠詞。
註：由於money是不可數名詞，所以沒有複數。
註：standard是可數名詞，加"a"。
註：have to是動詞片語(phrasal verbs)，固定表達have to verb。
